My Story
What I believe in and the path I took to get here.
My journey to here.
I was born and raised in rural Minnesota. I lived modestly, surrounded by wild forests, on a small family farm.I learned a deep connection to family, community, history, and the natural world that has shaped who I am today. I had opportunities to experience the diversity in the world, of both humans and in nature, and this sparked an interest to continually work to grow and learn.
I have never lost my desire to experience and understand the world as best as I can. I focused my studies and career to best continue my journey to learn and better myself. I have lived and worked in San Francisco for the past 12 years. My wife was born and raised here in the Sunset, as our two children now are. I walk the Avenues, roam Golden Gate Park, and relax on Ocean Beach This is my community. This is my home.
My Education
Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco
Bachelors in Applied Psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth
Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of Minnesota Duluth
My Career
After graduating college I spent time in Phoenix, AZ working with older adults with severe mental illness. I learned of the difficulties in gaining access to mental health services, but especially the lack of clear explanation of services and treatment to clients.
Then I moved to Southern California and worked at a juvenile placement facility. Here I discovered the joy of working with adolescents. The vast majority of the kids were system involved as a result of gang involvement. However, as I built relationships with them and heard their life stories I learned the ways they were impacted by systemic forces, family histories, and the lack of supports in their lives.
Next I moved to San Francisco and have been here for the past 12 years. I have worked in a community school that specializes in supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and their families with mental health issues. I have worked as a counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist, clinical supervisor, and the clinical director of the program.
Finally I started Grow LIFE Wise as a way to focus on both my strengths and the aspects of my many jobs that I have most enjoyed. Here I provide individual and family psychotherapy, individual and group clinical supervision, and consultation for both private practice clinicians and clinical programs or organizations.

My Approach
I believe in personal growth achieved through the health and wellness of your body, mind, and soul. Whether you are seeking therapy, supervision, or consultation you must understand where you come from, where you want to go, and how to take action today to successfully move forward. You must nurture your relationship with the natural world in order to nourish your whole self and live the life you deserve.
